Dungeon Heroes Keys and Skill Chests Explained

What Keys Do

Keys unlock pulls from dungeon-linked skill chests in the hub. Shattered Forest keys open only the Shattered Forest chest—they do not work on Astral Abyss. Each dungeon tier introduces a new chest pool with unique S-tier skills like Self Heal, Holy Light, and Chain Lightning.

Keys also pay for pet merges requiring five identical pets at the same level. Both systems draw from the same key wallet, which is why planning matters before you click merge on a early Bulwark.

Earning Keys Efficiently

Primary income is dungeon clears scaling with difficulty. Insane offers the best keys per minute if your group survives consistently; Hard wins for solo players still learning telegraphs. Daily quests and events may inject bonus keys after patches—check hub notices after maintenance.

Speed matters: a twelve-minute Insane clear earns worse hourly keys than a six-minute Hard clear. Optimize route knowledge before cranking difficulty.

Spending Order by Account Age

New accounts: one hundred percent skill chest on current dungeon until S-tier DPS matching weapon type. Mid accounts: add sustain skill from Orion or Deadman chests, then branch to next dungeon chest. Late accounts: split between Astral Abyss chest and S-tier pet merges—never merge B-tier pets.

Batch opens psychologically help streak management; game odds may be fixed per pull but humans tilt after three bad rolls unless batching.

Rarity vs Level — The Golden Rule

Skill rarity matters more than skill level in Dungeon Heroes. Dumping keys to level a Common skill while Rare alternatives remain in the pool is the most expensive beginner mistake. Level skills only after rarity and type match are correct.

Pet Merge Key Budget

When five copies align, merge consumes keys you might have spent on chests. Delay merge until core skill kit is online. Use tools/key-planner to simulate whether this week is merge week or chest week.
